O’Connor Constructors, along with designer The Maguire Group, recently received an award for their Construction management procedures by the Construction Management Association of America, (CMAA) New England Chapter for their work on the Prescott Street Pump Station. MASSPORT selected O’Connor Constructors as Construction Manager for the project based on experience and procedures. The original pump station had been in operation supplying both domestic and fire suppression water to all of Logan Airport since 1951 and was in need of replacement. The new pumping station provides 3,000gpm @ 90psi for domestic water and 8,500gpm @ 90psi for fire suppression. O’Connor and the project team were faced with the challenge of maintaining operations of the existing pump station until the new facility could be tested and brought on line.
The Prescott Street Pump Station was MASSPORT’s first project using the CM at Risk delivery method. Under this arrangement O’Connor was able to be involved with the project early providing design review, real cost estimating, feasibility studies and long lead material and equipment research. The collaborative approach to the project involved O’Connor Constructors, MASSPORT and The Maguire Group, a highly experienced full service engineering and design firm based in Foxboro MA. The efforts of all parties and the success of the project were recognized by the CMAA with this award.
