Reebok International Ltd. World Headquarters

Canton, Massachusetts

O'Connor was selected as part of a joint venture to build Reebok's New World Headquarters in Canton, Massachusetts. O'Connor Constructors gave Reebok strong local presence and depth of experience. The project demonstrated outstanding cooperation between the firms.

O'Connor worked closely with the client and the designers to provide extensive preconstruction planning and estimating for numerous design iterations of this major project. The ambitious 22-month schedule for this project became a much more difficult challenge when six months into the design development the design changed radically from the original plans. The project team met this challenge by implementing a fast track construction schedule along with extensive coordination with the design details still under development.

The stunning result is a 520,000 square-foot office complex consisting of four office buildings which include 286,000 square-feet of corporate office space, conference space, seminar rooms and training facilities, biomechanical labs, advertising and design studios, showrooms, executive offices, computer/telecommunications room, security center, a fitness/recreation center complete with aerobics studios, an indoor basketball court, locker rooms, reception areas, lounges and a kitchen and cafeteria. Additional features include a soccer field, running track, and basketball and tennis courts, a softball field and two parking garages to accommodate 1,200 vehicles. The entry area features an expansive curved and angled corridor, a perfect place to exhibit an impressive collection of sports memorabilia.

NBBJ Architects innovative design expresses the image and energy of Reebok. A key element is the unique glass circulation spine. The arc-shaped spine connects the four office buildings, creating a 'Main Street' that serves as a backbone of the building. 51,000 SF of articulated glass window wall is supported by a custom tensioned cable curtain wall system.

"Pre-planning is essential in delivering a complex project safely and efficiently. Before a single piece of equipment is deployed or a single construction worker arrives on site, we develop a strategy so all our team members understand their roles. A site-specific safety program involves all personnel, including the highest level of management. This kind of planning increases morale and results in increased productivity in today's competitive marketplace."
