Salem State College Athletic Facilities
Salem, Massachusetts
Under Construction
The Massachusetts State College Building Authority selected O'Connor Constructors to provide construction management services for the construction of athletic fields, tennis courts, and sports structure at Salem State College. The athletic fields were constructed in an area which was used as a recreation area with a bike path and a softball field owned by the school. O'Connor's scope included soil management and recapping the landfill using current capping standards. The project included extensive planning and permitting as the site is adjacent to wetlands and a tidal marsh and sits on top of a capped landfill formerly used by the GTE factory for the disposal of light bulbs. The multi-purpose fields are equipped with synthetic turf, perimeter fencing, grandstands, scoreboard, and pressbox.
Not far from the site of the new athletic fields, O'Connor also built six new tennis courts and a building which house restrooms, locker rooms, and storage of field maintenance equipment. The six courts make Salem State College eligible for NCAA tournament play.
O'Connor's preconstruction services included cost estimating, value engineering, providing services for all permitting, design, and procurement activities, scheduling procurement advice, scope and phasing decisions, trade contractor prequalification and bid package preparation.
