Boston, Massachusetts
This majestic seven-story 425,000-square-foot courthouse provides accommodations for three specialized groups: Massachusetts Land Court, Boston Juvenile Court and the Boston Housing Court. Each group has richly detailed transaction offices, courtrooms and judges' lobbies and shares common support functions such as legal libraries, lounge and reception areas, jury pool, sophisticated security offices, specialized holding areas and state-of-the-art recording and information services.
The Courthouse holds a total of eighteen courtrooms, public transaction and waiting areas, the Suffolk Registry of Deeds, a cafeteria and servery, retail store and underground parking for 100 cars. The new Courthouse provides for greater accessibility with a building organization that emphasizes clarity of circulation and generous open public spaces. The court faces onto public corridors and waiting areas that overlook an atrium along which numerous conference rooms are located.
This beautiful Courthouse serves as the flagship of the Commonwealth's Courts rebuilding program. We are pleased to note that it has received a number of design and construction awards and a great deal of recognition in the press.
